Microdosing Medical Cannabis - What It Means

Not everyone who uses medical cannabis wants to feel its psychoactive effect. Many patients want the therapeutic effect while staying fully functional during the day. This is where microdosing comes in - a strategy of very small doses.

What microdosing is

Microdosing means taking THC in amounts small enough to stay below the intoxication threshold. The goal is not a high but subtle support - for example reducing anxiety, improving mood or easing pain, without disrupting concentration.

This approach fits well with the start low, go slow principle - begin low and increase slowly.

Who it may suit

Microdosing is sometimes considered for people who:

  • need to function normally, work and drive during the day
  • are sensitive to THC and tolerate higher doses poorly
  • want to start therapy from the minimal effective dose
  • It is not a universal method - strong pain or spasticity may need higher doses. The doctor decides on that.

    How to do it safely

Microdosing only makes sense under a doctor's supervision, who sets the starting dose, the form and how to observe the effects. Solo experiments easily lead either to no effect or to accidentally crossing the threshold.
