What to Bring to Your First Medical Cannabis Visit

A well-prepared visit means a calmer conversation and a better chance the doctor assesses your case and qualifies you for therapy right away. It is not about a pile of papers, just a few specific things that give the doctor the full picture.

Here is a short list worth coming with.

Medical records - the most important

These are the basis for qualification. Bring everything that describes your health problem and previous treatment:

  • hospital discharge summaries and your medical history
  • test results, reports, diagnoses
  • specialist certificates, if you have them
  • The fuller the picture, the easier it is for the doctor to decide at the first visit rather than send you back for documents.

A list of medications you take

Write down the names and doses of the medicines you take regularly - including over-the-counter ones and supplements. This matters for safety and to avoid interactions with medical cannabis.

Symptoms and questions on a note

It is easy to forget half of it in the office, so write it down beforehand: how long the symptoms have lasted, what you have already tried, how the problems affect sleep, work and daily life. Add the questions you want to ask.

Honesty helps most - the doctor assesses the real picture, not an idealised one.

    Proof of identity

An ID card is useful - it is needed, among other things, to issue an ePrescription in your name.

What you do not have to do

You do not need a referral to book a consultation. You also do not have to bring any medicines physically - their list is enough. If you want to know how the visit itself goes, see our article what to expect at a first appointment, and we describe the whole process in how to get a prescription.
