The first medical cannabis visit can feel stressful, usually for no reason. It's an ordinary medical consultation - a conversation about your health, not an exam or anything to be embarrassed about. It takes 20-30 minutes.
Below we break it down: what to prepare, how the conversation goes, when the prescription decision is made and what happens next. No surprises.
You don't need a referral. It's worth preparing:
No paperwork? That's fine - the interview alone is enough for the doctor to assess. Records simply speed up and organize the conversation.
The doctor asks about symptoms, prior treatment, coexisting conditions and medications. They check for contraindications (e.g. pregnancy, past psychosis). Then they assess whether cannabis therapy makes sense in your case.
This is the time for your questions - about the form (flower, oil), dosing, driving, costs. The more you share, the better the doctor matches the preparation.
When the doctor qualifies you for therapy, they issue the ePrescription during the visit. You get the code by SMS or email within minutes and fill it at any pharmacy that stocks the preparation.
How to find flower or oil at the pharmacy afterwards is in our guide on where to buy medical cannabis.
Therapy starts with a small dose, raised slowly. The first follow-up usually falls in 4-12 weeks - that's when the doctor checks how you respond and fine-tunes the dose or switches the preparation.
It's normal for the first choice not to be perfect right away. Cannabis therapy is a process, not a one-off prescription.
